Building a business that caters to serious wealth can be a difficult road to travel. One reason is that the mega-rich do not actually like to talk about their money. If anything, they isolate themselves because of concerns about who to trust. This social barrier means that portfolio strategy and asset allocation are far down the list of topics that most multi-millionaires want to talk about. Private bankers and financial advisors can probably learn from wealth therapists who offer empathy to this unique cohort. Talking about investment opportunities with the mega-rich is usually a non-linear process. ■
